Community development has always been a focus area for JNPA because it is important that the growth and development of the Port drive economic stability and prosperity among the community around the Port. Inclusive growth is very essential because it reflects on the overall growth and economic development of our country.

JNPA has been keenly involved in rebuilding the lives of PAPs and at the same time providing support for development to the nearby villages and townships through many social objective projects. Providing livelihood through employment is one way to achieve financial stability and scope for growth for the community. JNPA has been working closely with the government to address the ‘lack of skill’ among the employable population in the local community. As part of the Sagarmala project, The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and its stakeholders including the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is supporting this initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. They also launched, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra initiative which will be providing best-in-class skill development centres running industry-driven courses. JNPA Signed MoU with CIDCO and All Cargo Logistics for setting up a Multi-Skill Development Center in Bokadvira, Uran, near JNPA under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra to create a suitably skilled workforce and cater to the diverse requirements of the industry.

JNPA is also the first major port to start the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana at JNPA Hospital. This initiative will provide quality medicines to the common masses at an affordable cost. 

JNPA is committed to the development of the community around the Port and already has many social projects and youth development initiatives in the pipeline to drive the region's economic growth.

The Industrial Relations situation in the Port is satisfactory. JNPA provides Pre-primary, Primary, and Secondary Education (English and Marathi medium) in the Port Township. The schools are managed by Rustomjee Kerawalla Foundation, Mumbai on behalf of the Port. In addition, an English medium school run by Rustomjee Kerawalla Foundation is also operating in JNPA Township. To encourage intelligent wards of the Port employees the Port awards scholarship to 335 wards of the Port employees during the year under the scholarship scheme. The rate of scholarship ranges from Rs. 450/- and Rs. 1250/- up to the Jr. College level, Rs. 4000/- for a student who secures admission on merit in professional degree courses and Rs. 6000/- after completion of a professional degree course in the first attempt. The total amount of scholarship disbursed of Rs. 7,74,950/- in the year 2017-2018.

The Port grants financial assistance from the Welfare Fund to Officers Club, Staff Club and meets the cost of the insurance premium for Group Personnel Accident Insurance Scheme, Group Term Insurance, funeral expenses, scholarships along with the expenses for the celebration of festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Mohotsav, Shivajayanti, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Engineers Day, Avishkar JNPA Karmachari Panvel Rahivasi Sanghatana.

JNPA runs 3 canteens at various places in the Port i.e. Port Operation Center, Administration Building, and JNPA Hospital.

JNPA running 50 bedded hospitals in JNPA township for JNPA employees and local villagers and in public in general.

JNPA Hospital undertakes the following health awareness program: Pulse Polio immunization – This program are conducted from time to time with the help of the State Health Authority and as per the guidelines of the National immunization program, achieving 100% immunization during every camp.

JNPA also provides BUS facilities for employees from Dadar, Vashi, Panvel, Uran, Ulave, Kharghar, Chirle, Pagote, Dronagiri and Township .

1. JNPA Antwerp Port Training and Consultancy Foundation.

“JNPA ANTWERP PORT TRAINING AND CONSULTANCY FOUNDATION” was founded as a company, ‘Not for Profit’, incorporated under section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 of 9th December 2016 with paid-up capital being contributed equally by JNPA and APEC.

JNPA built a world-class infrastructure facility for the Training Centre and the faculties from APEC, Port of Antwerp are delivering the training sessions since the beginning of the Centre. Normally each Training Program is designed for 5 days having a healthy mix of classroom sessions, field visits, and interaction with senior Port officials /eminent personnel from the industry. So far 30 Training Programs have been conducted at JNPA APEC Training Centre and around 474 officials mainly from Major Ports have participated in the seminars.

2. JNPA-CIDCO Multi-Skill Development Centre.

Under the Sagarmala initiative, the Ministry of Shipping intends to skill youth to fulfill the anticipated demand for the skilled labour force in the development of Coastal Economic Zones that will lead to port-based industrialization, coastal tourism, logistics parks, warehousing, and fisheries development.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), through its stakeholders: National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Sector Skill Councils (SSCs), and the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), is collaborating with the Major Ports across the country to set up state-of-the-art Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs) to serve industry-driven courses in Port and Maritime Logistics.

Accordingly, under PMKK, CIDCO-JNPA Multi Skill Development Center (CJMSDC) has been set at Bokadvira, Taluka: Uran & running by Allcargo (Operating Partner) for imparting training courses for the Project Affected Persons taking into account forthcoming major projects viz. JNPA-SEZ, Navi Mumbai International Airport, Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (PSA), etc. The following training courses (residential and non-residential) are being conducted at MSDC to the local persons:

  • Documentation Assistant
  • Inventory Clerk
  • Consignment Booking Assistant
  • Warehouse Picker
  • Consignment Tracking Executive
  • HMV Driver

The main objectives of the Multi-Skill Development Center are as follows:

  • Skilling the youth in the logistic sector to make them employable
  • To enhance the employability of the students passing/graduating from regular academic courses by introducing additional skill acquisition programs along with the regular studies.
  • Empowering youths with the additional skill to make them more confident and which will add value to their current profile.

After completion of training, certificates are being given to the candidates by the respective authorities such as NCVT/SCVT/MSSDC, etc. In addition, JNP & Allcargo is issuing the certificates of participation to all the candidates.

The total number of candidates to be trained during the year 2019-20 is 750. However, as of now, there are around 480 candidates/trainees who completed the courses such as Documentation Assistant, Inventory Clerk, Consignment Taking Assistant, etc.
