Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 3(2)5, of The Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Tree Act, 1975 (herein after referred to as "the said Tree Act"), has constituted the 'Tree Authority' with approval of the board on 26th February 2024, for JNPA SEZ and JNPA area;

As per Section 3, of the said Act, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority has constituted Tree Authority consisting of the Chairman and five members as below;

v  Deputy Chairman, JNPA -               Chairman of Tree Authority

v  Chief General Manager (PPD) -      Member

v  Chief Executive Officer-SEZ -          Member

v  Chief Architect and Planner, SEZ-   Member

v  DGM (Environment), PPD-               Member

v  Horticulture Officer, CIDCO Ltd, permanent invitee of JNPA Tree Authority as a subject expert.

As per Section 5(1), of the said Tree Act, Jawaharalal Nehru Port Authority has appointed following Tree officers:

a. Manager, PPD – Tree Officer for JNPA area.

b. Senior Manager, PPD- Tree Officer for JNPA-SEZ,area.

Therefore as per the provisions of section 8 (1) of the said Tree Act, no person shall fell any tree or cause any tree to be felled in any land, whether of his ownership or otherwise situated within JNPA area except with the previous permission of the Tree Officer. Whoever fells any tree or causes any tree to be felled in contravention of the provisions of the said Tree Act, shall on conviction be prosecuted as per the provisions of section 21 of the said Tree Act."
