Community development has always been a focus area for JNPT because it is important that the growth and development of the Port drives economic stability and prosperity among the community around the Port. Inclusive growth is very essential because it reflects on the overall growth and economic development of our country.
JNPT has been keenly involved in rebuilding the lives of PAPs and at the same time providing the support for development to the nearby villages and townships through many social objective projects. Providing livelihood through employment is one way to achieve financial stability and scope for growth for the community and JNPT has been working closely with the government to address the ‘lack of skill’ among the employable population in the local community. As part of the Sagarmala project, The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and its stakeholders including National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is supporting this initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. They also launched, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra initiative which will be providing best-in-class skill development centres running industry driven courses. JNPT Signed MoU with CIDCO and All Cargo Logistics for setting up a Multi-Skill Development Centre in Bokadvira, Uran, near JNPT under Pradhan MantriKaushal Kendra to create suitable skilled workforce and cater to the diverse requirement for the industry.
JNPT is also the first major port to start the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana at JNPT Hospital. This initiative will provide quality medicines to common masses at an affordable cost.
JNPT is committed towards the development of the community around the Port and already has many social projects and youth development initiatives in the pipeline to drive the economic growth of the region.
Industrial Relations situation in the Port is satisfactory. JNPT caters to the
educational needs of the wards of its Employees, staff of CISF and nearby local
community with the help of two reputed Institutions namely Rustomjee Kerawalla
Foundation’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port Vidyalaya and St. Mary’s JNP School (English).
These Institutions provide pre-primary, primary to secondary education in the Port
Township. With the view to encourage intelligent wards of Port employees the Port
awards scholarship to the wards of the Port employees. During the year 2018-19,
the Port awarded scholarship to 335 wards of Port employees under scholarship
scheme. The rate of Scholarship range from Rs. 450/- and Rs. 1250/- up to the Jr.
College level, Rs. 4000/- for students who secure admission on merit in professional
degree courses and Rs. 6000/- after completion of professional degree course in
the first attempt. The total amount of scholarship disbursed during the year 2018-19 was of Rs. 5,35,600/-.
The Port grants financial assistance from the welfare fund to Officers Club, Staff
Club, Sports Council and meets the cost of insurance premium for Group Personal
Accident Insurance Scheme, Group Term Insurance, funeral expense, scholarships
along with expenses for the celebration of festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga
Mohotsav, Shivjayanti, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Engineers Day, Avishkar
JNPT Karmachari Panvel Rahivasi Sanghatana.
JNPT runs 4 canteens at various places in the Port i.e. Container Yard, Port
Operation Centre, Administration Building and JNPT Hospital.
JNPT Township has well equipped 50 bedded Hospital for its employees and staff of
CISF. JNP Hospital undertakes Pulse Polio immunization programme from time to
time with the help of the State Health Authority and as the guidelines of National
Immunization Programme, achieving 100% immunization during each and every
camp. Recently, JNPT inaugurated Trauma Care Centre at its Hospital premises for
providing specialized medical assistance in cases of major trauma or causality. JNPT
is also the first major port to start the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi
Pariyojana at its Hospital, to provide quality medicines to common masses at an
