JN Port handled 68.45 million tonnes of total cargo during the financial year 2019-20. The containerized cargo was 60.94 million tonnes (89.03%), liquid cargo was 6.45 million tonnes (9.42%) and remaining 1.06 million tonnes (1.55%) was miscellaneous cargo of Dry Bulk (Cement) and Break Bulk.

JN Port handled 5.03 million TEUs of container traffic during the financial year 2019-20, reduced by 1.99% from the previous annual container handling of 5.13 million TEUs during the year 2018-19. Of the total traffic of 5.03 million TEUs, the share of the Port operated JNPCT was 0.72 million TEUs (14.29%), the share of NSICT was 0.53 million TEUs (10.56%), 1.99 million TEUs (39.46%) were contributed by M/s. APM Terminals (Gateway Terminals India Pvt. Ltd.), 0.99 million TEUs (19.61%) were contributed by M/s. Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminal Pvt. Ltd. (NSIGT) and remaining 0.81 million TEUs (16.08%) were handled by PSA’s Terminal Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal Pvt. Ltd. The container handled at JNPT constitute about 50.37% of total container traffic handled by all the Indian Major Ports (9.99 million TEUs).

The total Bulk cargo handled during the year 2019-20 was 7.51 million Tonnes as against 8.59 million tonnes handled in the previous year. The reduction in Bulk Traffic is 12.60% over previous year. Commodity wise Bulk Cargo Traffic is given below:

During the year 2019-20, a total of 2,498 cargo handling vessels sailed from JN Port as against 2,582 vessels in the previous year. The year witnessed 3.25% reduction in total sailed vessels. The break-up is given below:
This year witnessed rail share of 16.04% as compared to 14.65% in previous year.
A total of 806,803 TEUs were handled through 5,126 rakes during the year 2019-20 as against 752,041 TEUs handled through 4,711 rakes in the previous year, showing an increase in rail traffic by 8.81%. The break-up is as under:-
A total of 92,071 TEUs and 1,384 rakes were handled during the year 2019-20 at JNPCT, as against 110,440 TEUs and 1,307 rakes in the previous year, showing decline in rail traffic by 16.63%. The break-up is as under:-
A total of 89,946 TEUs and 1,272 rakes were handled during the year 2019-20 at NSICT, as against 97,210 TEUs and 1,256 rakes in the previous year, showing reduction in rail traffic by 7.47%. The break-up is as under:-
A total of 330,212 TEUs and 1,865 rakes were handled during the year 2019-20 at APMT, as against 321,854 TEUs and 1,925 rakes in the previous year, showing 2.60% growth in rail traffic in the year.The break-up is as under:-
A total of 183,890 TEUs were handled during the year 2019-20 at NSIGT as against 162,931 TEUs in the previous year, showing the increase in rail traffic by 12.86% in the year. The ICD Traffic at NSIGT was handled by using rail siding facility of other terminals of JNPT as Rail Siding Facility is not available at the Terminal. The break-up is as under:-
A total of 110,684 TEUs and 605 rakes were handled during the year 2019-20 as against 59,606 TEUs and 223 rakes in the previous year showing 85.69% growth in rail traffic in the year at Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT). The break-up is as under:-
